It’s natural for most people to focus on the negative implications of Daylight Saving Time (DST), especially for those people who are already sleep deprived. Losing another hour of sleep can greatly impact our health and job performance. But with the negative does come the positive, and for some, it may outweigh any negatives. We did an article last year How the Extra Hour of Sleep from the End of Daylight Savings Affects You. The Monday following DST leads to higher car accidents, heart attacks and may cause the formation of a sleep disorder. But no one sheds light (pun intended) on the positive aspect of DST, so let us tell you about it. Continue reading…
Have you ever had a dream in which you were physically fighting with someone or something else? Usually when we have dreams like this, our bodies remain still even though we have a mental image of us being physically active. Those who suffer from REM Behavior Disorder may not experience this kind of dream the same way though.
Stress and sleep disorders can make it extremely difficult for a person to fall asleep or maintain an uninterrupted rest during the night. Stress is the response to our daily lives, so when there is a problem at home or in the workplace, it will take a toll on our bodies. Not only can stress keep us up into the wee hours of the morning, but sleep disorders can also play the same role. Sleep apnea, insomnia and restless leg syndrome are just some of the disorders that can make it difficult to fall and stay asleep. If you suffer from stress or a sleep condition, it is important to learn some relaxation techniques that will help put your body and mind to ease before bed.

Sleep Options is proud to announce that we have donated four of our memory foam mattress sets to a family in need. When we heard the story of the Johnson-Goslee family, we knew we wanted to help. On an upcoming episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, you will get to see the life changing tale of Whyzir Johnson-Goslee, a 16 year old boy who experienced a tragic accident. On December 24th, 2010, Whyzir was helping his grandfather repair his 80 year old home that needed a lot of improvement. While working on an almost finished project, Whyzir found himself in a dangerous situation. His jacket got caught in the teeth of the miter saw blade, causing him to fall backwards and the saw to collapse on top of him. Whyzir ultimately had his left hand severed by the machine. Weeks and surgeries later, Whyzir was informed of the traumatic news: his hand could not be saved.
Sleeplessness affects many people worldwide. With approximately 30-50% of the population suffering from insomnia, the inability to fall asleep or stay asleep throughout the night, it is important to figure out the causes of sleep deprivation. Many causes of sleeplessness include stress, anxiety, and emotional or physical discomfort, but have you ever stopped to think that your mattress may be the cause?
No matter what kind of mattress that you are sleeping on, it is important to make sure that you are getting a good value of time from your bed. We’re not speaking about how long you sleep in it, but rather how long your mattress should last you. Typically, a mattress that is kept in good condition will last for 7-10 years. If you find that your old mattresses have not lasted this long, there are some measures that can be taken to help keep your mattress quality high for a longer period of time.
Everyone has heard the phrase “beauty sleep” used in everyday conversation, but did you know that getting more sleep does actually make people more beautiful? When people are sleep deprived, the consequences show in their physical appearance. A lack of sleep has been linked to depression, exhaustion, and weight gain – all of which are hard to outwardly hide.
The more time a person spends sleeping, the more likely they are to appear well rested and healthy. A study done in Sweden last year gave more insight on how sleep affects beauty. Twenty-three participants were photographed after a normal night’s sleep and then again after a night in which they were deprived of sleep. Sixty-five observers who got to share their opinion of the appearance of each person then rated participants. As it turns out, the photos of sleep-deprived people were rated as less healthy, less attractive, and more tired.
Both natural latex foam and memory foam mattresses have the qualities of conforming to one’s body and providing a comfortable and rejuvenating night’s rest. Both types of mattresses also provide many health benefits and relieve sleep disorders for those who use them. It is important to know the benefits each mattress provides when selecting the right one for you. Here we will provide an overview of which problems the different mattresses alleviate during the night.
Everyone tends to focus on their mattress as their main source of sleep problems. Though this may be a valid point, this view drastically overlooks the secondary cause of sleep problems, which is their pillow(s). Pillows are a direct source of discomfort to your neck, head, and upper spine, and this discomfort can easily cause disruption during sleep. This kind of sleep disruption can cause exhaustion and drowsiness during the day, which no person wants to deal with.
